Infrared Inspection Services:
Electrical Panel Scans Using Thermal Imaging
Electrical Inspections using thermal imaging or infrared technology
How does an infrared inspection work?
Infrared is a wave of light humans can't see; it is a form of natural radiation that all objects emit. Infrared cameras use this attribute to detect areas of unusual temperature in people, animals, homes, equipment, buildings, electrical components, etc.
What is it?
It is the general inspection of a live electrical system using an infrared camera. The infrared thermography will (with the help of an electrician) scan energized electrical equipment to see if there are any damaged connections, bad components, or improper electricity flow. This service is an extremely common application and incredibly effective.
Why use it?
Here's an interesting fact, electrical system failure is the second leading cause of commercial fires in the US. All electrical systems will eventually fail due to thermal transients (they heat up and cool down all of the time and will eventually wear out because of this). Fortunately with infrared cameras, you can actually see electrical components malfunctioning before they fail and correct them.
What can infrared imaging do for you?
The picture below shows an disconnect switch scan that has a loose/weak connection between the contactors. Other deficiencies that can be detected using infrared include, overloaded circuits, load imbalances, harmonic problems and defective electrical components.
Electrical switchgear and panels are the bloodline to supply electricity throughout commercial, manufacturing and industrial buildings. Without it, production stops and money is lost. Infrared is a proven tool to identify electrical problems prior to failure, allowing our clients to take proactive steps to prevent costly and sometimes dangerous electrical outages.
